The project

So, after 16 years in full time education, i finally have the time to start this project and go on this long expected journey. A journey, not of distance but of learning, a journey of discovery. It's expected because for many years i've longed to take up this project, and now, at last, it begins.

The project.
I intend to spend 1 year documenting the local wildlife in a specific area. i will update this blog at least once a week if possible with diary entries, illustrations, photos and videos.
The aim is to document how the habitat changes within the year, what happens to the wildlife as the year progresses, what wildlife and fauna is present and to record my year spent in these fields.

The area.
The area that will be the focus of this project is located 5 minutes from my house. Many childhood hours were spent over these fields, it's a location that helped encourage my interest in wildlife. The name we gave the fields growing up was Belvedere, named after the new housing estate that was built around it.

The Belvedere fields are located in Hindley Green, Wigan, North West England. The area is reasonable built up and urbanized, but the wildlife in the area is thriving. Part of my intention of the project was to show people that great wildlife isnt just found in nature reserves, its found in local fields, its in your gardens and allotments. I hope the diverse range of species that i will document over the coming year will highlight the importance of these areas, and how important it is that they remain protected and undamaged.

Take nothing but photographs, leave nothing but footprints.
